Malawi Vice-President’s Plane Goes Missing

An aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing on Monday, the president’s office said in a statement. The Malawi government has launched a search for the plane, which departed from the capital, Lilongwe, shortly after 9 am (local time) and was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport after 10 am (local time).

‘All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the aircraft have failed thus far,’ Secretary to the President Colleen Zamba said in the statement. After being informed of the vice-president’s plane going missing, Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera canceled his scheduled flight to the Bahamas.

More details are awaited.
