Malayalam actor Jayasurya is facing serious accusations of sexual harassment, with two separate complaints filed against him. These allegations surface amidst the ongoing #MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry, spurred by the release of the Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread exploitation and harassment within the industry.
The first complaint was filed by actress Sonia Malhar, who accused Jayasurya of inappropriate behavior during the filming of the Malayalam movie ‘Pigman’. She alleged that while she was exiting the restroom, Jayasurya grabbed her, causing her distress. She pushed him away and he apologized, claiming it was a mistake.
The second complaint comes from actress Minu Muneer, who accused Jayasurya of hugging and kissing her forcefully on multiple occasions during film projects. She also accused other prominent actors, including Mukesh M, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Idavela Babu, of verbal and physical abuse during their collaborations.
Jayasurya has vehemently denied all allegations, stating that they are false and malicious. In an Instagram post, he expressed his shock and pain, emphasizing that his family and he have been deeply affected by these accusations. He announced his decision to pursue legal action against his accusers, stating that his legal team will handle the proceedings. He maintains his innocence and believes that truth will ultimately prevail.
The Kerala Police have registered FIRs against Jayasurya based on the complaints. The case will be transferred to the Thodupuzha Police Station for further investigation. It is important to note that both parties have the right to be heard and the legal system will determine the outcome of these allegations. The Malayalam film industry is grappling with a reckoning as the #MeToo movement continues to expose the prevalent culture of abuse and harassment. This case is a stark reminder of the importance of addressing these issues head-on and ensuring justice for all victims.
