Tourism Malaysia is embarking on a sales mission to Oman and Qatar from May 12 to 15, 2024, as part of its vigorous drive to enhance tourism relations and present its latest attractions to the West Asian market, building on its success at the recent Arabian Travel Market 2024.
Mr. Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, will lead a delegation comprising 21 members of Malaysia’s tourism community, including 11 travel agencies, seven hotels, and two product owners, who collectively represent Malaysia’s dynamic tourism offerings.
The mission will include focused business-to-business (B2B) sessions and networking dinners in Muscat and Doha, aiming to forge productive partnerships and facilitate knowledge exchange between Malaysian and local travel trade partners. Detailed briefings and presentations will also be held to deepen understanding of Malaysia’s vibrant tourism industry.
“West Asian travelers have consistently ranked among the top five international spenders in Malaysia, boasting a high per capita expenditure and longer average stays,” said Mr. Manoharan. “As we witness a resurgence of West Asian tourists to Malaysia, this sales mission presents a strategic opportunity to amplify our promotional efforts in Oman and Qatar.”
In 2023, Malaysia saw the arrival of 18,078 and 2,464 tourists from Oman and Qatar, respectively. The mission seeks to surpass pre-pandemic visitor numbers of 23,911 and 4,089 from 2019.
This effort is supported by convenient direct flights to Kuala Lumpur by Qatar Airways, Oman Air, and Salam Air.
