Under the theme “Malay Heritage,” the Malaysia Food and Culture Festival in Shanghai spotlights the country’s vibrant history, culture, and modern lifestyle. Mr. Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, inaugurated the festival, emphasizing the significance of showcasing Malaysian cuisine as a way to promote tourism and showcase national identity.
At Pudong Shanghai Qiantan Taikoo Li, the festival offers a captivating array of cultural activities, food tastings, and travel packages. Visitors can immerse themselves in traditional dances and performances by Malaysia’s diverse ethnic groups, specially choreographed by Istana Budaya (Palace of Culture).
Meanwhile, at Shangri-La Qiantan Shanghai, the festival highlights Malaysia’s diverse culinary delights. From May 24th to 31st, Tourism Malaysia and Shangri-La Qiantan, Shanghai present a Malaysian cuisine buffet featuring chefs from Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. This culinary experience aims to entice Chinese tourists to explore Malaysia’s unique flavors and cultural heritage.
Malaysia Airlines extends its support as the official airline partner for the festival. Mr. Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), highlighted the strategic partnership between Malaysia Airlines and Tourism Malaysia in promoting tourism and strengthening connections between the two nations. In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of friendship between China and Malaysia, the airline offers special fares for flights from China to Kuala Lumpur and other destinations in Malaysia.
Tourism Malaysia’s participation in the festival aligns with its broader initiative to promote Malaysia as a top tourist destination. With its offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, Tourism Malaysia collaborates with travel agencies and airlines to enhance promotions and facilitate increased flight connectivity between China and Malaysia. The country aims to attract 16.1 million international tourists this year, with China remaining a key contributor and a target of 5 million arrivals.
