Malaysia Ramps Up Tourism Promotion in South Korea at Seoul International Travel Fair 2024
Tourism Malaysia is actively promoting Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings to South Korean travelers by participating in the 39th Seoul International Travel Fair (SITF) 2024. Taking place at COEX from May 9th to 12th, 2024, the campaign aims to position Malaysia as a vibrant and dynamic destination rich in cultural heritage, traditions, festivals, languages, and culinary delights.
The Malaysia booth, inaugurated by H.E. Dato’ Mohd Zamruni bin Khalid, the Malaysian Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Korea, will showcase Malaysia’s unique features and tailored packages designed specifically for the South Korean market. These include Edu+ packages that promote Malaysia as a leading educational tourism destination in the Asia Pacific region, the Sarawak Delta Geopark & Gawai package highlighting the unique geopark tourism product and Gawai Festival celebrations in Sarawak, and the “Dive Into Unimaginable” diving packages that reveal the underwater marvels of Malaysia.
To further attract attendees, the booth will feature special cultural performances and a demonstration of Malaysian Batik, a textile art distinguished by motifs that reflect the art and culture of Malaysian society. The Malaysian contingent includes representatives from state tourism bodies, airlines, and prestigious organizations such as the Sabah and Sarawak Tourism Board, Batik Air, and the National Association of Private Educational Institutions (NAPEI).
Mr. Manoharan Periasamy, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, emphasized the importance of the South Korean market, stating that “South Korea has been the primary source market for Malaysia, and last year alone, Malaysia received a total of 400,853 tourists from South Korea.” He added that “in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year 2026, Malaysia will highlight its richness in cultural heritage, breathtaking natural scenery, and contemporary facilities that cater to all types of travelers. Apart from its leisure offerings, Malaysia has evolved as one of the preferred choices for overseas education tourism destinations for South Koreans.”
Tourism Malaysia aims to attract 27.3 million international visitors and generate RM102.7 billion (USD 21.5 billion) in tourism revenue this year, supported by improved air connectivity and strong marketing campaigns, including its participation in SITF 2024.
