Maldives Partners with Fliggy to Boost Chinese Tourism

The Maldives is taking steps to further strengthen its appeal to Chinese tourists. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Fliggy, China’s leading online travel platform under the Alibaba group. This collaboration aims to elevate the Maldives’ visibility and attractiveness within the Chinese market.

The MOU was signed on August 18, 2024, at Villa Nautica, with MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, and Fliggy’s Vice President, Tong Teng, representing their respective organizations. The signing ceremony, hosted in collaboration with Villa Resorts, symbolizes the commitment to promoting the Maldives as a premier destination for Chinese travelers.

This partnership is expected to significantly enhance promotional efforts, bolstering the Maldives’ position in this crucial source market. It will also highlight the diverse tourism segments the Maldives offers, encompassing everything from pristine beaches and luxurious resorts to exciting water sports and unique cultural experiences.

The selection of Villa Nautica as the venue for the signing ceremony highlights the Maldives’ potential as a destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) travel. This strategic move aims to showcase the Maldives’ capabilities to host successful events and conferences, attracting business travelers and industry professionals.

“We deeply value the strong relationship between our two countries and appreciate the love the Chinese people have for the Maldives,” said Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal. “This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to build on that connection.”

MMPRC’s dedication to collaboration with stakeholders and partners is evident in this latest initiative. By working closely with the tourism industry, MMPRC aims to expand its market reach, diversify tourism offerings, and achieve substantial growth in tourist arrivals. The Maldives remains a top destination for Chinese tourists, and this partnership represents a significant step towards maintaining its status as the World’s Leading Destination, keeping the Chinese market informed about the latest updates and attractions from the “Sunny Side of Life.”
