The Maldives is taking steps to attract more Chinese tourists. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), responsible for promoting the island nation’s tourism, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Fliggy, China’s leading online travel platform under the Alibaba Group. This strategic partnership aims to increase the Maldives’ visibility and appeal to Chinese travelers.
The MOU was signed on August 18, 2024, at Villa Nautica, with MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, and Fliggy’s Vice President, Mr. Tong Teng, representing their respective organizations. This partnership, supported by Villa Resorts, signifies a concerted effort to position the Maldives as a top destination choice for Chinese tourists.
Fliggy plays a crucial role in this collaboration, leveraging its extensive reach and influence within the Chinese travel market to elevate the Maldives’ profile. Through this partnership, Visit Maldives, the marketing arm of MMPRC, aims to showcase the diverse tourism offerings of the Maldives, including its beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts, and unique cultural experiences.
The signing ceremony, held at Villa Nautica, a resort owned by Villa Resorts, serves as a testament to the Maldives’ suitability for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travel. This strategic partnership highlights the versatility of the Maldives as a world-class destination, capable of hosting a wide range of events and conferences.
By collaborating with Fliggy, the Maldives is actively seeking to tap into the growing Chinese outbound tourism market. This partnership underscores the Maldives’ commitment to attracting Chinese tourists and further solidifying its position as a premier destination choice for travelers from China.
