The Navi Mumbai police have apprehended a man for stealing 400 grams of gold jewelry and Rs 15 lakh from his cousin’s home. The motive behind the theft, as revealed by the accused, was to cover losses incurred in his exotic pet business.
The accused, identified as Karan Lunsingh Rajpurohit (26), reportedly committed the theft on August 19 while his cousin’s family was away at a temple. A complaint was filed by the victim, leading to the initiation of an investigation by the Rabale police.
Acting on credible information, the police arrested Rajpurohit on August 25. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, revealing his desperate financial situation due to losses in his exotic pet business.
The police have recovered a significant portion of the stolen valuables, including 370 grams of gold jewelry, 1.5 kg of silver ornaments, and Rs 7.5 lakh cash. Rajpurohit was remanded to police custody until August 30 by a court.
