STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man suffered head trauma before he was found dead outside in a mixed commercial and residential neighborhood in Port Richmond, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The body of the 32-year-old man was located by police on Sunday around 6:15 a.m. in the vicinity of Port Richmond Avenue and Van Riper Street, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
When officers arrived, the man was lying face up on the ground with signs of trauma on his forehead, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
Police are trying to determine exactly how the man was injured and if foul play was involved, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
EMS pronounced the unconscious and unresponsive man dead at that scene and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death, the police spokeswoman said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation continues on Monday, the police spokeswoman said.
Numerous residences and businesses, including a convenience store, pizzeria, Mexican restaurant, are located in the area. Caution tape was spread across the intersection and police were seen walking back and forth in a parking lot near some of the stores.
