Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer as they look to bolster their defense in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian has a release clause in his contract, making a move ‘more reasonable’ for the Red Devils. However, United have a ‘long list of names’ being considered, with the addition of a new defender a priority ahead of the summer. Juventus is also scouting for potential replacements for Bremer, eager to be prepared for his potential departure.
According to respected journalist Rudy Galetti, United has been increasingly insistent on securing a deal for the central defender, who still has four years remaining on his contract. This has resulted in Juventus being eager to beat Inter Milan, Aston Villa, and other Premier League clubs to the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Mario Hermoso.
Although GIVEMESPORT sources recently revealed that United is unlikely to spend more than £70 million on a new center-back, a move for Bremer becomes more realistic due to his release clause. The clause becomes active in the summer of 2025, but there is a verbal agreement that Juventus will entertain similar bids ahead of next season.
According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Bremer may fit the bill for United. Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It is not yet clear which defenders Manchester United will target, but one thing to bear in mind through this summer is the valuations that are going to be put to them.”
“It is difficult to see Manchester United starting to plough anything like £70 million or £80 million into single signings right now, so when names are touted for them, I think anything that is closer to the £50 million mark is probably more reasonable.”
“Bremer has a release clause, so maybe he fits with that. But, at the moment, Manchester United have a long list of names and they need to uncover the actual price tags on all of them.”
Despite being in the hunt for Bremer, United is also reportedly interested in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The Red Devils are preparing to make him their first acquisition since Sir Jim Ratcliffe took control of football operations. According to Football Insider, United is confident of luring the 21-year-old away from Goodison Park despite his importance to the Toffees. Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently told GIVEMESPORT that Everton is eager to keep Branthwaite, but suitors are aware of the club’s financial instability and need for cash.
