Manchester United in Talks with Disney for Multi-Million-Pound Documentary Deal

Manchester United in Negotiations with Disney for Multi-Million-Pound Documentary Deal

Manchester United is reportedly engaged in advanced discussions with entertainment giant Disney regarding a potential multi-million-pound documentary deal that would delve deeply into the club’s rich history and legacy.

The concept for this documentary series was initially presented to the Red Devils a few seasons ago. Now, as negotiations reach an advanced stage, Disney aims to secure the rights to United’s vast archive footage to bring the club’s story to life on the Disney+ streaming platform.

A central focus of the series will be the extraordinary reign of Sir Alex Ferguson, whose 26-year tenure at the helm of Manchester United saw the club amass an astounding 38 trophies. Exclusive interviews with Ferguson, now 82 years of age, as well as prominent members of his most successful teams, including Bryan Robson and Peter Schmeichel, are expected to provide invaluable insights into this legendary era.

While the proposed documentaries will not grant live access or behind-the-scenes glimpses into the current squad and manager Erik ten Hag’s dressing room, they will offer comprehensive coverage of United’s illustrious past. The club’s Premier League rivals, such as Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal, have previously collaborated with Prime Video on their own ‘All or Nothing’ documentary series, which provided unprecedented behind-the-scenes access.

It is understood that Manchester United will retain editorial oversight of the Disney-produced documentaries, a customary practice for English clubs. This oversight ensures that the narrative presented aligns with the club’s desired portrayal of its history and achievements.

Coinciding with the proposed documentary deal with Disney, Prime Video is set to release a one-off documentary commemorating the 25th anniversary of United’s historic Treble triumph in 1999. The trailer for this film, released earlier this month, features interviews with iconic players such as Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke, offering a tantalizing glimpse into one of the most remarkable seasons in the club’s history.
