Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is hoping to bounce back from their disappointing performance against Coventry when they face rock-bottom Sheffield United on Wednesday. United threw away a three-goal lead against the Championship Sky Blues in their FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, but ultimately progressed into the final on penalties. Ten Hag has since come out fighting, branding the criticism of his team a “disgrace”. He also backed Antony after the attacker was spotted cupping his ears to the Coventry squad, in a move that has been widely ridiculed. Former United boss Jose Mourinho has said that he did not have the same level of support from the club’s board as ten Hag currently enjoys. Mourinho spent just over two years as United boss but was sacked in December 2018. “My relationship with Ed Woodward was good,” Mourinho told The Telegraph. “Good as in the personal point of view. Even now we sent an SMS. But from a professional point of view, it was not the best.” Ten Hag, on the other hand, has received public backing from the United board, including chief executive Richard Arnold. Arnold said in an interview with The Athletic that ten Hag has the “full support” of the club. “Erik is a top manager and we are delighted to have him at Manchester United,” Arnold said. “He is a winner and he has a clear vision for the club. We are all behind him and we believe in him.” Ten Hag will be hoping to get United back to winning ways when they face Sheffield United on Wednesday. A win would see them move up to fifth in the Premier League table, and close the gap on the top four. However, Sheffield United will be no pushovers. The Blades are bottom of the table, but they have won their last two games and will be looking to make it three in a row against United.
