Manchester United has secured the services of veteran defender Jonny Evans for another season, signing him to a one-year contract extension. The 36-year-old Northern Irishman enjoyed a successful return to Old Trafford last year after spending eight seasons away with West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City.
Evans made a significant contribution to the team, featuring in 30 matches across all competitions, including the memorable FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. His presence on the pitch and in the dressing room brought a wealth of experience and leadership to the squad.
Expressing his delight at the contract extension, Evans stated, “To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege. Returning to the club last season was an honor, representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic teammates under an excellent manager.”
He continued, “Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead.”
Evans’ FA Cup triumph with United marked a completion of a full set of domestic silverware for the defender. He had previously been part of three Premier League title wins and two League Cup triumphs during his initial spell with the club.
With the new season approaching, Manchester United will begin their pre-season campaign on Monday with a match against Rosenborg in Norway. The club has also recently announced that manager Erik ten Hag has signed a new contract, extending his stay at Old Trafford until 2026. This positive news bodes well for the future of the club and its ambitions for success.
