Manchester United’s Injury Woes Continue: Mason Mount Joins Growing List of Absentees

Manchester United’s injury woes continue to mount, with midfielder Mason Mount joining a growing list of players ruled out for the upcoming clash against Liverpool. The club confirmed on Thursday that Mount has been sidelined for a few games due to a minor muscle injury sustained during their last match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The news comes as a blow to manager Erik ten Hag, who is already dealing with a significant injury list. Forward Rasmus Hojlund, along with defenders Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, and Victor Lindelof, are all out with various injuries.

Mount, who started both of United’s opening league games this season, had been a bright spot for the club. He joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in July 2023 for a reported fee of £55 million ($72.48 million) but had a frustrating debut campaign due to multiple injury setbacks.

The 25-year-old expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, “During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue. I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games.” He further revealed his determination to return to full fitness as soon as possible, writing, “Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready. I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”

With several key players unavailable, the pressure mounts on ten Hag to find solutions ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated clash at Old Trafford. This fixture marks a crucial early-season test for both teams, and a victory for United would give them a significant boost in the Premier League table. However, the current injury crisis puts a significant dent in their preparations, adding a new level of difficulty to the encounter.
