Mandarin Oriental to Bring Luxurious New Property to Rome

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is thrilled to announce the development of a luxurious new property in the heart of Rome, set to open in 2026. This urban sanctuary will expand the Group’s Italian portfolio to five properties, adding to its existing locations in Milan and Lake Como, along with the recent announcements of properties in Cortina and Porto Cervo.

The project is in partnership with Merope Asset Management, a leading Italian real estate investment and development company. Mandarin Oriental, Rome will offer a distinctive experience, housed within ten 19th-century villas originally built for affluent Romans, surrounded by lush landscaped gardens. Guests and visitors can enjoy the serene environment of this private neighborhood while being just steps away from Rome’s major attractions and archaeological sites.

The villas will feature 108 guestrooms and suites, each offering tranquil views of the gardens or city landmarks. Many suites will include private gardens and terraces, enhancing the urban retreat experience. The interior design, curated by the award-winning French design duo Gilles & Boissier, known for their work on Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech and Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid, will exude chic elegance and contemporary style.

Dining options, crafted by DimoreStudio, and landscaping by Parc Nouveau, will include six restaurants and bars in various settings, including al fresco dining and a unique dining concept in one of the villas. The Mandarin Bar, located on a spacious rooftop terrace, will offer stunning city views and is sure to become a sought-after destination.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will provide a wide range of the Group’s acclaimed wellness experiences in a peaceful setting. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, while swimmers will appreciate the large indoor and outdoor pools set amidst the beautifully landscaped gardens. The wellness offerings will include six treatment rooms, a VIP treatment suite, thermal rooms, and a dedicated sundeck for those seeking relaxation and pampering.

The secluded location, between Via Piemonte and Via Sallustiana within The Gardens of Sallust, an ancient Roman archaeological site, offers magnificent landscaping and historic charm, giving visitors a glimpse into the grandeur of Rome’s past. Nearby cultural heritage sites and premium retail and leisure destinations include Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, and Piazza Navona, all within close reach.

“Rome is home to many historical and architectural treasures and a destination of choice for luxury travellers,” said Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. “We will take the same meticulous approach in Rome as we have with our other historic properties, ensuring that we honour and respect local artisanal craftsmanship and Roman cultural heritage, while incorporating the finest luxury, contemporary comfort, sustainability standards and the legendary service for which Mandarin Oriental is renowned. We are delighted to be extending the Mandarin Oriental brand in Italy and look forward to working with our partners to create a truly unique landmark in the heart of the city.”

Pietro Croce, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Merope Asset Management added: “The ten Villas, nestled into a serene, secular park, are among the most spectacular properties in Rome. We are honoured to be partnering with Mandarin Oriental on this once-in-a-life-time project. Working in tandem with the local Public Administration, we trust we will be able to deliver a truly unique experience for our beautiful Capital City.”
