Warning: Dangerous Drugs Causing Seizures in Manitoba First Nation
The Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) in Manitoba has issued a public service announcement alerting its residents to the presence of dangerous drugs in the community. Five individuals have experienced seizures or required medical attention after using substances like crack and cocaine.
The specific composition of the drugs is still under investigation. However, NCN cautions that fentanyl or other lethal substances may be involved. Fentanyl is particularly hazardous due to its potency, which is 20 to 40 times greater than heroin and 100 times that of morphine. It is odorless and tasteless, making accidental overdoses a significant concern.
Moreover, mixing fentanyl with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids further elevates the overdose risk. NCN emphasizes the importance of seeking immediate medical attention if any adverse effects are experienced after drug use.
Police are actively investigating the matter. Residents are advised to exercise caution and avoid consuming any suspicious substances. CTV News Winnipeg has reached out to the First Nation for further details, which will be provided as they become available.
