Manolo Marquez, the current head coach of Indian Super League outfit FC Goa, is set to become the new head coach of the Indian men’s national team. He will succeed Croatian Igor Stimac in the role. Marquez’s appointment comes after a successful stint in Indian football. He arrived in India in 2020 and took charge of Hyderabad FC, guiding the team to their first-ever ISL title in the 2021-22 season. After three successful years with Hyderabad, Marquez moved to FC Goa ahead of the 2023-24 season. He led Goa to a third-place finish in the ISL table before their semifinal exit at the hands of eventual champions Mumbai City FC.
Marquez’s coaching journey began with PB Anguera, a Spanish club where he concluded his playing career. In 2013, he was appointed as the head coach of RCD Espanyol’s B team, guiding the side through Spain’s third-tier league for a season. His experience and success in Indian football, combined with his previous coaching stints in Spain, make him a strong candidate to lead the Indian national team into a new era. The appointment is expected to be officially announced soon, and fans are eager to see how Marquez will shape the team for the upcoming challenges.
