Double Olympic medalist Indian shooter Manu Bhaker’s father, Ramkishan Bhaker, believes her medals at the Paris Games will act as a ‘tonic’ for aspiring shooters. He sees her two podium finishes as a significant boost for the Indian shooting scene.
Speaking to PTI, Ramkishan expressed his pride in Manu’s performance, acknowledging the intense competition and pressure at the Olympic level. He emphasized that finishing fourth in the women’s 25m sports pistol event, despite missing out on the bronze medal in a tie-shoot, is still a remarkable achievement.
He believes Manu’s medals will inspire a new generation of Indian shooters to pursue the sport. “Her performance today was very great. The competition is very tough at the Olympic level as the best of the best players participate. There’s a lot of pressure as well. Manu played very well. Finishing the game in fourth position is also a very great thing. Her medals will act as a tonic for other kids to take up shooting,” Manu’s father told PTI.
Manu Bhaker’s dream of winning three medals at the Paris Games was dashed when she lost the tie-shoot for the bronze medal to Hungarian Veronika Major by the narrowest of margins. Despite the disappointment, her father remains optimistic about the positive impact her achievements will have on the future of Indian shooting.
