Marchand Leads Bruins to 4-2 Victory, Taking 2-1 Series Lead over Maple Leafs

The Boston Bruins took a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night. Brad Marchand scored twice, including the game-winner in the third period, and added an assist for the Bruins. Jake DeBrusk and Trent Frederic also scored for Boston, while Tyler Bertuzzi and Matthew Knies replied for Toronto.

The Bruins got a strong performance from goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who made 28 saves. Ilya Samsonov made 30 saves for the Maple Leafs.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the second period when DeBrusk scored on a power play. Bertuzzi tied the game for Toronto later in the period, but Marchand gave the Bruins the lead back just 28 seconds later.

Frederic extended the Bruins’ lead to 3-1 in the third period, and Marchand added an empty-net goal to seal the victory.

Game 4 of the series will be played on Saturday in Toronto. Game 5 is set for Tuesday in Boston.
