Marchand’s Late Heroics Give Bruins 2-1 Series Lead Over Maple Leafs

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand led his team to a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series on Wednesday night. With the win, the Bruins take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 is scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. EST.

Marchand broke a 2-2 tie with a goal at 8:07 left in the third period, and then added an empty-net goal with 36 seconds remaining to seal the victory for Boston. The tie-breaking goal came just 28 seconds after the Maple Leafs’ Tyler Bertuzzi had tied the game. Marchand also had an assist in the game, giving him 55 career playoff goals, which ties him with Boston president Cam Neely for the Bruins’ all-time record.

In addition to Marchand’s heroics, Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman was spectacular in making 28 saves. Trent Frederic and Jake DeBrusk also scored for the Bruins, while Matthew Knies scored the other goal for Toronto. The Maple Leafs were again without the services of William Nylander.
