Marcus Pettersson of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been added to the Swedish national team for the upcoming IIHF world championships in Czechia next month. He joins Erik Karlsson, his defensive partner for much of the past season, who was named to the team Tuesday.
Pettersson had a solid regular season, contributing four goals and 26 assists in 82 games. He provided a steady defensive presence to his pairing, whether it was with Karlsson or Kris Letang.
Meanwhile, Penguins winger Rickard Rakell has turned down an offer to participate in the tournament due to a shoulder injury he sustained during the 2023-24 season.
The world championships are scheduled to run from May 10-26. This article first appeared on Pittsburgh Hockey Now and was syndicated with permission.
