The California Interagency Council on Homelessness (Cal ICH) has allocated $5,999,241 to Marin County and the City of San Rafael to address homelessness along the Mahon Creek Path in San Rafael. The funds will be used to house 46 individuals currently living in the Mahon Creek encampment and provide necessary social services.
Additionally, Marin County will receive more than $8,678,000 from the state to house 60 people, primarily Latino farm workers and their families, in a new RV interim housing site in Bolinas. This funding will also support the construction of 27 new permanent homes. Furthermore, over $3,720,000 in state funding will help provide 90 people with interim shelter options near Novato.
Marin County officials emphasize that their main objective is to keep clients housed through the “housing first” approach. All state grant funds must be utilized by June 30, 2027. San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin highlights the collaborative effort in developing the grant proposal, which incorporated valuable input from the unhoused community living on the Mahon Path, ensuring that the funds will effectively address their needs and help them overcome homelessness.
