Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta and owner of Facebook and Instagram, is a peculiar person. Or at least that’s what many people on the internet seem to think. Zuckerberg’s stereotypical nerd persona, complete with a questionable haircut, social awkwardness, and a blank stare, has led to a lot of jokes and speculation over the years.
One of the defining moments for Zuckerberg’s lore came in 2014 when he gave a fumbling answer to a question about how he deals with obstacles in his life. “You kind of need to remind yourself that you need to focus and try not to let stuff bother you as much as possible, but it is going to bother you because you’re human,” Zuckerberg said. “I was human. I am human, still. But, um, but I was just referring to myself in the past. Not that I was not human.”
Unsurprisingly, the moment quickly went viral. But what exactly do people think Zuckerberg is if not human? The lizard conspiracy theory is one popular theory, with some people believing that Zuckerberg is a shape-shifting reptilian alien. In 2016, Zuckerberg went as far as to outright deny being a lizard during a Q&A livestream.
When Zuckerberg isn’t being compared to a lizard, he’s often being called a bloodless automaton. The blank stare, the lack of blinking, the monotone voice – all of these things have led to comparisons to a robot.
So if Zuckerberg isn’t a lizard or a robot, what could he be? Internet users seem to agree that the only other possible answer is an alien. In 2023, claims regarding Zuckerberg’s alleged extraterrestrial nature resurfaced after he was photographed in India with an absurd amount of sunscreen on his face.
At the end of the day, nearly all of the jokes about Zuckerberg are made in jest. He’s definitely human – or at least we’re fairly certain he is. But it’s fun to speculate, and it’s clear that people on the internet have a lot of fun making memes about Zuckerberg.
