Eintracht Frankfurt staged a remarkable comeback, thanks to the brilliance of their top scorer Omar Marmoush, to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Sunday. Marmoush, who already had an equalizing goal in the first half, delivered a last-gasp strike deep into added time to salvage a point for his team and deny Bayern a much-needed victory.
Bayern, looking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League loss to Aston Villa and a draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the previous Bundesliga match, started strongly and took the lead through Kim Min-jae’s goal after 15 minutes. However, Frankfurt responded with a swift counter-attack, culminating in Marmoush’s well-placed shot past Manuel Neuer just seven minutes later. The Egyptian forward, already boasting an impressive eight goals in just six league games, then turned provider in the 35th minute, setting up Hugo Ekitike with a perfectly timed assist for Frankfurt’s second goal.
Bayern fought back with renewed vigor and managed to level the score three minutes later when Dayot Upamecano capitalized on a chaotic goalmouth scramble. The visitors then regained the lead in the 53rd minute through Michael Olise’s stunning left-footed strike. However, Marmoush’s late equalizer ensured a share of the spoils, denying Bayern a win and keeping them level on points with RB Leipzig, who had earlier in the day secured a 1-0 victory against Heidenheim. With the draw, Bayern remain at the top of the table, but only on goal difference, making the Bundesliga title race even more unpredictable.
