Now, Mary Berry, the Great British Bake Off legend, has shared her “ultimate” brownie recipe, which is both simple and irresistible. This recipe uses only seven ingredients and requires just five steps. Berry describes it as her favorite brownie, boasting a wrinkled top and a gooey middle, perfect for eating as is or with your favorite topping.
This easy recipe yields 24 squares and can be made up to two days ahead, making it ideal for weekend events and family gatherings.
Mary Berry’s ‘Ultimate’ Chocolate Brownie Recipe
Ingredients:
* 360g (12 1/2 oz) Bournville plain chocolate, broken into pieces
* 225g (8oz) butter, cubed, plus extra for greasing
* 225g (8oz) light muscovado sugar
* Four eggs, beaten
* 75g (3oz) self-raising flour
* One tsp vanilla extract
* 75g (3oz) chocolate chips
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C for fan ovens) or Gas Mark 4.
2. Lightly grease and line a 30 x 23cm (12 x 9in) traybake tin with non-stick baking paper.
3. In a large heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate and butter over a pan of simmering water, stirring until fully combined.
4. Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the sugar and eggs until the mixture is smooth. Then, add the flour and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly. Fold in the chocolate chips.
5. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for approximately 45 minutes, until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft. Allow to cool in the tin before cutting into 24 squares.
