Mary Trump Accuses Donald Trump of Inciting Violence and Sanewashing by Media

Mary Trump, a psychologist and author, has voiced her concerns about her uncle, Donald Trump’s, psychology and the media’s role in sanitizing his rhetoric. In a Substack post, she labeled him a ‘lover of violence,’ particularly when it benefits him.

She pointed to the recent second assassination attempt against the former president, noting that just days prior, Trump refused to condemn bomb threats, school evacuations, and the widespread fear in Springfield, Ohio, which he and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, had allegedly instigated by targeting Haitian immigrants.

Trump’s history of promoting violence extends back to his 2016 campaign, where he encouraged supporters to assault protesters. Mary Trump also highlighted Trump’s role in inciting the January 6th Capitol riot, where he encouraged and fueled the violence. She argues that Trump’s strategy is to keep the nation divided, angry, and fearful, believing this is the only way to maintain power.

In addition to Trump’s actions, Mary Trump expressed concern about the media’s portrayal of him. She criticized what she calls ‘sanewashing,’ where the media presents Trump’s incoherent statements as meaningful and rational. This, she claims, allows him to appear less delusional and more serious than he truly is.

She argues that this sanitizing approach gives Trump an advantage, enabling him to get away with harmful actions. She warned of the increasing danger posed by Trump and his inner circle, who she believes are becoming more dangerous to democracy and American citizens.

Mary Trump also addressed Trump’s claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, which she sees as a form of ‘stochastic terrorism’ – rhetoric designed to incite violence against specific groups. She believes Trump’s rhetoric is deadly serious, and that he is willing to sacrifice lives to advance his political goals.

Mary Trump expressed deep concern about the future, warning of the potential for escalating violence and instability in the coming months.
