Mary Trump, a psychologist and niece of former President Donald Trump, has issued a stark warning about what her uncle might do if he were to be elected for a second term. In a Substack post, she paints a chilling picture of a presidency consumed by revenge against perceived political enemies, both foreign and domestic.
Trump’s second term, according to Mary Trump, would be focused on settling scores with those who have challenged his authority, including immigrants, judges, juries, and anyone deemed insufficiently loyal. She warns that those who have opposed him will face a very real threat of prosecution, imprisonment, or even deportation.
She envisions a systematic purge of the government, starting with the dismissal of non-partisan civil servants and their replacement with loyalists who pledge allegiance to Trump, not the Constitution or the United States. These loyalists would then be strategically placed in key positions throughout the federal government, from the FBI Director to the 93 U.S. attorneys and assistant attorneys general.
Once Trump loyalists secure these positions, they could begin implementing policies that the other branches of government would be unable to stop. Congress, she notes, has no direct role in criminal cases, and the judiciary, already dominated by Trump’s “sycophants and enablers,” would be powerless to challenge his actions.
Mary Trump argues that Trump’s pursuit of vengeance would overshadow any genuine interest in governing. “Donald Trump is a fascist and he and the Republican Party have put this country on a path towards fascism,” she states. “If he gets back into power, he will care nothing about governing. All of his energy will be dedicated to grifting and revenge.”
While these warnings might seem far-fetched, Mary Trump stresses the seriousness of the threat. She believes that if given the power, Trump will act on his desire for revenge. Her predictions raise crucial concerns about the future of American democracy and the potential consequences of a second Trump presidency.
