Marseille secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Saturday, thanks to a blistering performance by Mason Greenwood. The former Manchester United forward put on a show, netting two goals within a minute to put his team in control.
Greenwood’s first goal came in the 16th minute, a precise shot from a tight angle. He followed that up with a second just a minute later, finding the back of the net from close range. This incredible feat marks his fifth goal in only three Ligue 1 matches, tying a record previously set by Mario Balotelli in 2016.
The match seemed destined for a Marseille win after Greenwood’s double strike, further cemented by Toulouse’s Frank Magri receiving a red card in the 27th minute for a trip on Marseille’s Geoffrey Kondogbia. Despite the advantage, Marseille missed numerous scoring opportunities, only adding a second-half own-goal from Charlie Cresswell to their tally. Toulouse managed a late consolation goal through Shavy Babicka.
With this victory, Marseille shares the top spot in Ligue 1 with Nantes, who also remained undefeated after a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Montpellier. Nantes’ triumph was initiated by Matthis Albine’s volley, only to be leveled by AJ Adams in the 30th minute. Moses Simon’s penalty in stoppage time put Nantes back in the lead, and Mostafa Mohamed sealed the win with a late goal.
In another exciting match, Brest secured their first victory of the season, defeating newly promoted Saint-Etienne 4-0. Mahdi Camara opened the scoring with a header, followed by Romain Del Castillo’s penalty before halftime. Ludovic Ajorque capitalized on a free kick in the 77th minute to make it 3-0, and Kenny Lala sealed the deal with a penalty after Pierre Cornud was penalized for pulling Soumaila Coulibaly’s shirt.
