Mason Miller Unleashes Electric Fastball, Striking Out Three Yankees Batters in Ninth Inning

Mason Miller, the Athletics’ closer, put on a remarkable performance on Monday against the Yankees in the Bronx. Entering the ninth inning, Miller unleashed his electric fastball, striking out three batters in a row to seal the victory for his team.

Miller’s first pitch clocked in at 103 miles per hour, freezing Anthony Volpe. He followed up with another 103 MPH pitch, this time striking out Juan Soto. To cap off his impressive outing, Miller delivered a 102 MPH fastball, forcing Aaron Judge to swing and miss. His exceptional command and velocity left the crowd in awe.

Miller’s fastball has become a topic of discussion throughout Major League Baseball, consistently exceeding 100 MPH. On Monday, he recorded his fifth save against the Yankees and currently boasts the eighth fastest pitches in the MLB this season. According to Sarah Langs, Miller has thrown six of the fastest strikeout pitches by an A’s pitcher since 2008, including three during his outing against the Yankees.

Miller’s fastball velocity has averaged around 100 MPH throughout the season. A’s outfielder Brent Rooker described it as “electric stuff” and “overpowering.” Miller’s previous fastest pitch, recorded against the Cardinals last week, reached 102.2 MPH.

Prior to his success as a closer, Miller served as a starter for the Athletics last season, compiling a 0-3 record and a 3.78 ERA in six starts. However, injury issues prompted the team to transition him to the bullpen.

Miller’s impressive performance comes as the Athletics prepare for their final season in the Bay Area before relocating to Las Vegas. The team’s victory on Monday marked their ninth win of the season, keeping them ahead of the Astros, who currently occupy last place in the American League West.
