Mass Stranding of Whales in Western Australia

Authorities Rush to Save Whales from Mass Stranding

A large number of pilot whales, estimated to be between 50 and 100, have become stranded on a beach southwest of Perth, Western Australia. The incident occurred at Toby’s Inlet near Dunsborough, more than 250 kilometers south of the state capital.

Wildlife authorities and volunteers have been dispatched to the scene to assist in the rescue efforts. However, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) has urged members of the public to follow the instructions of officials to ensure both human safety and animal welfare.

According to a statement released by Parks and Wildlife Western Australia on Facebook, prioritizing human safety is paramount during such events. The last mass whale stranding in Western Australia took place at Cheynes Beach in Albany in July 2023, resulting in the deaths of approximately 90 whales.
