Massachusetts Fisherman Claims $1 Million ‘Jaws’ Lottery Prize

Michael Stephens, a former deep sea fisherman from Dighton, Massachusetts, has come forward to claim a $1 million prize from his winning “Jaws” lottery scratch ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at Olde Village Corner Store in Somerset, which will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket. Stephens, who chose to receive his prize in a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes, plans to share his winnings with his family and use it to travel with his wife.

There are still four $1 million grand prizes remaining to be claimed in the “Jaws” lottery game, including one that can only be won during a Second Chance drawing event on Martha’s Vineyard. Players can enter non-winning “Jaws” tickets into the Second Chance drawings for a chance to win an all-inclusive themed trip for two to Martha’s Vineyard in the summer of 2025. While on the trip, winners also have the chance to win $1 million. The first six trip winners were announced on April 18.

The “Jaws” lottery scratch ticket features boat, scuba mask, and life-saving buoy symbols and has a shiny, water-like finish with red text. There were over 8 million “Jaws” scratch tickets released, each with the chance to win up to $1 million. If a player scratches off to reveal a “shark fin,” they instantly win $100. Six $1 million prizes, 112 $10,000 prizes, and 3,360 $1,000 prizes were available upon the game’s release to claim. The next four Second Chance drawing dates to determine the remaining 24 Martha’s Vineyard trip winners will be determined as tickets are sold. The next drawing will be held after approximately 40% of tickets in the game are sold, or 3.2 million tickets.
