A massive landslide occurred on Thursday at the highway between Hunli and Anini in Arunachal Pradesh, causing a deep cut in the road and disrupting the route connecting Dibang Valley. The landslide occurred on a stretch of the Trans-Arunachal Highway, which is a crucial link between the state capital, Itanagar, and the eastern districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The landslide has caused a deep cut in the road, making it impassable for vehicles.
The Arunachal Pradesh government has deployed teams to the site to clear the debris and restore connectivity. Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to Twitter to address the landslide incident, stating that instructions have been given for the restoration of connectivity at the “earliest.”
“Received the news of a massive landslide on the Hunli-Anini road in Dibang Valley. I have directed the concerned authorities to restore connectivity at the earliest. My prayers for the safety of the people affected by this incident,” tweeted Khandu.
The landslide has disrupted the movement of vehicles and people between Dibang Valley and the rest of the state. The authorities are working to clear the debris and restore connectivity as soon as possible.
In a separate incident, two suspected Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Odisha’s Boudh district on Thursday morning. The encounter took place in the Parhel reserve forest area of Boudh district. The police recovered the bodies of two Maoist cadres and seized explosives and arms from the spot.
The Director of Intelligence, Soumendra Priyadarshi, said that the bodies of the two Maoist cadres are being identified with the help of surrendered rebels. One more Maoist is also injured during the encounter.
The encounter took place during an anti-Maoist operation launched by the security forces in the Parhel reserve forest area. The police have cordoned off the area and are conducting a search operation.
