Matawan High School’s baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a commanding 7-1 victory over cross-town rival Manasquan High School on Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies’ pitching staff, led by Brandon Falco and Andrew Gendi, put on a masterful performance, striking out 11 batters and allowing only one hit. Falco took the mound first, showcasing his pinpoint control and devastating fastball. Through five dominant innings, the senior right-hander mowed down nine Manasquan batters, allowing only one walk and keeping the Warriors hitless. Falco’s stellar outing set the tone for the game, putting his team in an advantageous position. Andrew Gendi relieved Falco in the sixth inning and continued the Huskies’ pitching dominance. The southpaw struck out two batters and allowed just one hit in his two innings of work. At the plate, the Matawan offense provided plenty of support for their pitchers. Andrew Gendi led the charge, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Bryan McCartin also contributed with a solid performance, driving in three runs to help seal the victory. Mark Kovach chipped in with two hits and two runs scored, while Sean Hart and Chris Galasso each added a double to the Huskies’ offensive tally. Manasquan’s lone bright spot came from starting pitcher Chase Kaplan, who struck out nine batters in 3.2 innings of work. However, the Warriors’ offense struggled to keep up, managing only one hit off the Matawan pitchers. Connor Voelkson recorded the lone hit for Manasquan, a single in the fifth inning. With the victory, Matawan improved its record to 9-0, remaining undefeated on the season. Manasquan, on the other hand, dropped to 4-4-1 with the loss.
