Matty Healy, the lead singer of The 1975, has finally addressed Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” which is widely believed to be inspired by their brief relationship and breakup last year. In a video that has been circulating online, Healy is approached by a paparazzo in Los Angeles and asked about his thoughts on the album, which many have interpreted as a “diss track” aimed at him.
Healy, dressed in a navy hoodie and carrying a backpack, appears to be in good spirits as he responds to the question with a laugh, saying, “My diss track? Oh!” He goes on to admit that he hasn’t listened to much of the album but adds, “I’m sure it’s good.”
The album’s opening track, “Fortnight,” featuring US rapper Post Malone, is seen as an allusion to Healy and Swift’s brief romance. In the song, Swift sings, “And I love you, it’s ruining my life, I touched you for only a fortnight” followed by “Your wife waters flowers. I wanna kill her.”
Healy and Swift were first linked romantically in May 2022, just weeks after Swift’s split from actor Joe Alwyn. An insider close to Swift revealed that the pair had a brief fling nearly a decade ago, but the timing was off. However, their paths crossed again in early 2022, and they began dating.
Their relationship was short-lived, however, and by the end of June, it was over. Healy has since moved on and is now in a relationship with Gabriella Bechtel, the lead singer of punk rock band Nasty Cherry. Swift is also in a relationship, with Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce.
Despite their brief relationship, Healy’s aunt, Debbie Dedes, believes that he will not be surprised by the songs on Swift’s new album. She told the Daily Mail, “He will not be surprised by the song. Him and her know what went on.” She added that Healy is now “very happy” with his new partner and that the family “know a bit more about what went on” with Swift “than has been in the press.”
