1975 frontman Matty Healy recently shared his initial reactions to ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated double album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ While acknowledging the existence of rumored diss tracks directed towards him, Healy admitted that he had yet to listen to the album extensively. Despite his limited exposure to the new tracks, Healy expressed confidence in Swift’s songwriting abilities, stating, “I’m sure it’s good.”
Speculation has been rife among Swifties, with several songs on the album being theorized to reference Healy, whom Swift briefly dated in 2023. Rumors of their fling initially surfaced a decade ago, but the pair rekindled their romance after Swift’s six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn ended. Some of the songs believed to be about Healy include “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” and the title track.
In particular, the lyrics of “The Tortured Poets Department” have drawn attention due to their potential connection to Healy’s past comments about typewriters. Swift sings, “Like, who uses typewriters anyway?” This line resonates with an interview Healy gave to GQ in 2019, where he expressed his fondness for typewriters. “I really like typewriters as well. I don’t have one with me because that is impractical, but the thing with typewriters and writing with pen to paper, there’s an element of commitment that goes with the ceremony with it,” Healy said at the time. “It therefore forces you to concentrate a bit better.”
“Fortnight,” the album’s lead single featuring Post Malone, has also been linked to Healy due to its title. In British English, “fortnight” refers to a period of two weeks, potentially alluding to the short-lived nature of their romance. Swift and Healy reportedly split in June 2023, with Swift subsequently dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since September.
