Maureen Lipman Recalls the Late Queen’s Visit to Corrie Set

Maureen Lipman recalled the moment Queen Elizabeth II visited the Corrie set in 2021. The monarch’s close confidante, Angela Kelly, was a huge fan of the ITV soap and is said to have been instrumental in arranging the visit.

Lipman revealed that the Queen spent two hours on set, walking through the cobbles and meeting the cast and crew members. She said that the Queen’s visit was a special moment for everyone involved.

Kelly, who had been the Queen’s Personal Assistant and Senior Dresser for almost 30 years, was given a home by King Charles following the Queen’s death in recognition of her friendship and dedicated service.

The Queen was said to be an avid watcher of television shows, including Coronation Street and Line of Duty. However, she never openly admitted to watching Netflix series The Crown, although a senior royal source told the press in 2017 that she had watched all 10 episodes of the first series but turned off when they began depicting her beloved Prince Philip in a less favorable light during season two.
