Mauritius Election Results: Incumbent Prime Minister Concedes Defeat

Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has conceded defeat in the recent parliamentary elections. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Jugnauth acknowledged that his political alliance, L’Alliance Lepep, is facing a significant loss. He stated, “L’Alliance Lepep is heading towards a huge defeat. I have tried to do what I can for the country and the population. The population has decided to choose another team. I wish good luck to the country.”

Sunday’s election saw voters go to the polls to select lawmakers for the next five years. A record 68 parties and five political alliances competed for the 62 seats in parliament. The party or coalition securing more than half the seats will also win the prime minister’s position.

This election was a highly contested affair, with several parties and alliances vying for power. The results will determine the political landscape of Mauritius for the next five years and have significant implications for the country’s future. The outcome of the election will be closely watched by both domestic and international observers.
