Maya Rudolph, known for her roles in films like “Bridesmaids,” recently shared her experiences growing up with famous parents on the “Armchair Expert” podcast hosted by Dax Shepard.
Reflecting on her mother, the late singer-songwriter Minnie Riperton, Rudolph acknowledged that her parents’ careers in music did not directly influence her own path as an actress.
“They were musicians. They weren’t actors,” Rudolph said. “My trajectory was, I wanted to go to New York, and I wanted to be on Saturday Night Live.”
While Rudolph recognized her mother’s talent, she noted that many of her peers were not initially aware of Riperton’s accomplishments.
“It’s interesting because my mom was a singer that not all my friends were that aware of at the time,” she said. “Everybody that knows who I am now knows that’s my mom. But growing up, I didn’t feel like she was a household name. I felt like she was special, yeah.”
