Mayank Yadav’s T20 World Cup Hopes Dented by Lack of Experience, Says Irfan Pathan

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has expressed his doubts about Mayank Yadav’s chances of making it to the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Yadav has been in impressive form for Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing Indian Premier League, but Pathan believes that his lack of experience at the highest level could count against him.

Pathan, who played 120 One-Day Internationals and 24 Tests for India, was asked by a fan on Twitter if Yadav deserved to be in the squad for the tournament in Australia later this year. Pathan replied that he would love to have Yadav in the team as an “X-factor” but said that his inexperience could be an issue.

“Would have love to have him as X factor but the issue here is less exposure at the top level,” tweeted Pathan.

Yadav has taken six wickets in two matches for Lucknow Super Giants in this season’s IPL, and has been consistently bowling above the 150kph mark. However, he has never played for India at senior level.

Pathan also said that he would like to see Yadav and fellow young fast bowler Mohsin Khan play more matches for India.

“Fast bowlers I will keep in mind for sure. 1) Mayank Yadav 2) Mohsin khan. Not necessarily take them to the World Cup but they surely bring something extra in their bowling. Which can be an asset for team India. But would like them to play plenty of matches,” said Pathan.

Yadav has been sidelined with a hip injury since April 7, and it is unclear when he will be able to return to action for Lucknow Super Giants.
