In a rally held in Meerut on Tuesday, BSP national president Mayawati stated that she had given due consideration to the feelings of the Tyagi Brahmin community and had allocated a ticket to Devvrat Tyagi in the Meerut constituency. She explained that both Muslims and Tyagis have a significant presence in Meerut, and while the BSP had fielded Muslim candidates in previous elections, this time, the Tyagi community had expressed a desire for the party to nominate one of their own. In response to their request, the BSP has granted a ticket to Devvrat Tyagi.
Mayawati further pledged that if her party emerges victorious, it will work diligently to fulfill the long-standing demands of the western Uttar Pradesh region. These demands include the establishment of an Allahabad High Court bench in Meerut and the creation of a separate state for western Uttar Pradesh to facilitate its development.
Mayawati also criticized the Congress party for its flawed policies and anti-Dalit and anti-backward approach, which have resulted in its removal from power. She expressed doubts about the BJP’s ability to retain power in the upcoming elections due to the significant gap between their promises and their actions.
Mayawati asserted that the guarantees made by the BJP have remained merely on paper, with the party failing to deliver on even a quarter of its commitments to the poor and middle class. Instead, she accused the ruling party of prioritizing the enrichment of industrialists, as evidenced by the recent report on electoral bonds.
She also raised concerns about the politicization of central investigative agencies by both the Congress and the BJP. Mayawati highlighted the issue of reservation for Dalits, tribals, and OBCs in government jobs, expressing concern over attempts to undermine its effectiveness. She reminded the SC and ST communities of the SP’s actions during its tenure in Uttar Pradesh, when it had ended reservation in promotions and demonstrated a lack of commitment to ensuring full benefits of reservation for these communities.
During the rally, Mayawati also addressed the Aligarh constituency, where the BSP has fielded Brahmin candidate Hitendra Upadhyay. She emphasized that Upadhyay’s candidature was widely supported by various sections of society, including Muslims. She urged voters to support the party’s Hathras (SC) candidate, Hem Babu Dhangar.
Regarding the Mathura constituency, Mayawati explained that the people had expressed a desire for an educated local candidate rather than an outsider, which led to the party’s decision to field Suresh Singh. Her speech concluded with a call for voters to support the BSP and its candidates.
