Mayor Karen Bass’s Home Broken into by Man with Prior Violent Crime Convictions

Ephraim Hunter, the suspect in the break-in of Mayor Karen Bass’s home, has a history of violent crime convictions in Massachusetts. Court records indicate that Hunter was involved in a kidnapping and attempted murder case in 2015. The LAPD is investigating the motive behind the break-in, as sources suggest that Hunter may have targeted the mayor’s residence.

Hunter, 29, allegedly smashed through a window at the Getty House in Windsor Park around 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, while Bass and her relatives were present. No one was injured during the incident, and nothing was stolen. Hunter was arrested without incident and booked on suspicion of burglary.

The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation, and prosecutors are expected to consider evidence beyond simple burglary. Two law enforcement sources revealed that Hunter reached the second floor of the home, prompting Bass to seek shelter in a safe area.

Bass expressed gratitude to the LAPD for their swift response and the safety of her family. A 24-hour security detail has been established at Getty House following the incident.
