Mazda has officially unveiled the EZ-6 sedan at the 2023 Beijing Motor Show. Part of the Japanese carmaker’s joint venture company, Changan Mazda, the EZ-6 will launch in China by the end of 2024, although its global availability remains uncertain. Offered in both battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, the EZ-6’s powertrain specifications have yet to be detailed. However, the BEV model is claimed to have a range of approximately 600km under lenient CLTC standards, while the PHEV model is expected to travel over 1000km on a single tank of fuel. Both EZ-6 models will be rear-wheel drive only. Measuring in at 4921mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1485mm tall, the Mazda EZ-6 is slightly longer, narrower, and taller than the current Mazda 6 sedan. Its exterior design features a faux grille with a litany of LED lighting elements, flush door handles, smooth body lines, a full-width tail light assembly, and an active rear spoiler. Inside, the EZ-6 boasts a two-tone interior with a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and panoramic glass sunroof. At this stage, it is unclear if the Mazda EZ-6 will be offered outside of China. However, Changan Mazda has expressed interest in promoting the export of vehicles produced in China and is researching overseas cooperation opportunities. In Europe, Mazda recently confirmed plans to launch a new electrified vehicle, fueling speculation that the EZ-6 could potentially replace the aging current-generation Mazda 6, which was first revealed in 2012. Mazda has not yet confirmed if the EZ-6 will be based on the new Large Architecture platform scheduled for rollout between 2025 and 2030, but the company has already confirmed that several products will be launched on its new dedicated EV architecture by the end of the decade, alongside a slew of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric models due to be launched on the SkyActiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture.
