Kylian Mbappe, the star forward for France, was absent from the starting lineup in their second Euro 2024 match against the Netherlands. The match took place at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany. Mbappe’s absence was due to a broken nose he sustained during France’s opening game against Austria, which they won 1-0.
The injury occurred during an aerial challenge when Mbappe’s face collided with Kevin Danso’s shoulder. Images from the match showed Mbappe’s nose bloodied and swollen as he was substituted out mid-game. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in Dusseldorf for further evaluation.
The French Football Federation confirmed the extent of Mbappe’s injury, stating that he would undergo treatment in the coming days without immediate surgery. The federation also announced that a protective mask would be created for Mbappe, allowing him to potentially return to competition after a period of treatment.
While Mbappe was not ruled out of the squad entirely, his availability for the game against the Netherlands was limited to a potential appearance off the bench.
