Andrew McCutchen’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday night set the tone for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. It was McCutchen’s second consecutive game with a leadoff homer, making him the first Pirates player to accomplish that feat since Adam Frazier in 2019. The home run was also the 100th of McCutchen’s career at PNC Park.
Bailey Falter, making his fourth start of the season, turned in another impressive performance, allowing just three hits and striking out eight batters over seven innings. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 16, dating back to his start against the Miami Marlins on March 31.
The Pirates’ offense provided just enough support for Falter, with Connor Joe’s RBI single in the sixth inning giving them a 2-0 lead. The Brewers finally got on the board in the eighth inning on a leadoff home run by Gary Sánchez, but David Bednar came on in relief and closed out the game for his fourth save of the season.
The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Pirates and gave them their second consecutive victory in the four-game series against the Brewers. Pittsburgh will send left-hander Josh Fleming to the mound in Wednesday’s matchup, while the Brewers will counter with right-hander Bryse Wilson.
