Chris McGrath, a standout pitcher for St. Rita’s, attributes his success to the work ethic instilled in him by his father, Tom. Despite his father’s limited baseball experience, McGrath admires his father’s dedication and uses it as inspiration.
This work ethic has played a crucial role in McGrath’s development. As a freshman, he worked tirelessly in the weight room, which has led to a steady increase in his velocity and confidence.
McGrath’s versatility has made him a valuable asset to his team. Not only is he a reliable starter, but he also thrives in closing roles. In a recent 6-5 victory over Brother Rice, he came in to relieve in both the sixth and seventh innings, getting out of bases-loaded jams and securing the save.
St. Rita’s coach has praised McGrath’s leadership and experience, trusting him to handle high-pressure situations.
Despite their ups and downs in the league, St. Rita’s remains focused on improvement. Jackson Stanek, a Southeastern Illinois recruit, has led the team with a .475 average and 20 RBIs.
McGrath, who is set to join Rock Valley next season, remains versatile and willing to contribute in any role, although he prefers starting for the increased opportunities it provides.
