Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay has ended his 22-year association with Manchester United, joining Serie A club Napoli in a move that signifies a new chapter for the 27-year-old. McTominay, who joined United at the tender age of five, made his senior debut in 2017 and went on to feature in 178 Premier League matches for the club.
His departure comes as a result of a €30.5 million ($33.70 million) transfer fee agreed between the two clubs. Manchester United expressed their gratitude for McTominay’s contribution, stating that he will be missed by everyone at the club and wished him well as he embarks on this new challenge in Italy.
McTominay’s move to Napoli follows the arrival of striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea earlier this week, marking the second major signing from the Premier League for the Italian club.
McTominay’s final appearance for Manchester United came as a late substitute during their 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Napoli, under the guidance of manager Antonio Conte, secured their first league win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Bologna last weekend and will be looking to build on that momentum as they host Parma this Saturday.
