Media regulator Ofcom has come under fire from former GB News chairman Andrew Neil for failing to enforce impartiality standards regarding politicians hosting TV programs. Neil, who resigned from GB News shortly after its launch due to disagreements over its direction, expressed surprise at Ofcom’s tolerance of the channel’s practices. He believes that politicians should not be allowed to present or interview each other in political programs, as this compromises impartiality. Neil cited examples of Conservative MPs hosting shows on GB News that were later found to have breached broadcasting rules. Ofcom’s investigation into these programs resulted in a warning to the channel, with further breaches potentially leading to sanctions. According to Neil, GB News would have been different under his leadership, with higher production values and a focus on storytelling rather than attempting to replicate Fox News. He does not believe that there is a market in Britain for such a model. In response, a spokesperson for GB News declined to comment on former staff members. Ofcom has been contacted for comment.
