Mega Block on Central Railway: 930 Local Trains Canceled, Long-Distance Services Impacted

The Central Railway is implementing a major 63-hour mega block starting from May 30 midnight to facilitate critical infrastructure upgrades at key stations. The mega block will focus on extending and widening platforms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in South Mumbai and Thane station. To accommodate these projects, Central Railway will be вынуждена cancel a total of 930 local train services. The distribution of cancellations is as follows:

– Friday: 161 cancellations
– Saturday: 534 cancellations
– Sunday: 235 cancellations

Apart from local train services, long-distance trains will also be affected during the block period. The railways have advised commuters to avoid traveling by local trains unless absolutely necessary.

To provide alternative transportation options for affected passengers, the railways have requested the cooperation of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). Extra buses will be operated to ensure smooth and efficient travel during this period.

Central Railway officials have emphasized the importance of minimizing passenger traffic during the mega block. Commuters are encouraged to explore work-from-home arrangements or other flexible work options to reduce the number of passengers on local trains.

The completion of these platform extension and widening projects will significantly enhance the capacity and efficiency of CSMT and Thane stations. These upgrades will contribute to improved passenger experiences and reduced travel times in the long run.
