Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is unlikely to return to the United Kingdom with her husband, Prince Harry, according to royal commentator Tom Quinn. The primary reason for this decision is the lack of adequate security and a suitable residence for the couple in the UK.
Meghan and Harry, who married at Windsor Castle in 2018, stepped down from their roles as working members of the Royal Family in 2020. They were granted Frogmore Cottage as their UK residence but relinquished it after the publication of Harry’s controversial memoir, ‘Spare,’ which criticized members of the Royal Family.
Since leaving Frogmore Cottage in July 2023, Prince Harry has made multiple trips to London but has stayed in hotel rooms due to security concerns. He has expressed discomfort with the level of protection provided to him in the UK.
Meghan has echoed Harry’s concerns, stating that she is only willing to return to the UK if the couple has their own residence and receives adequate security. These conditions, however, remain unfulfilled, making a return to the UK highly improbable for Meghan.
The ongoing tension between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, exacerbated by Harry’s book, has further complicated the situation. The couple’s departure from Frogmore Cottage and the subsequent lack of a UK base have solidified their separation from Harry’s family and suggest that a reconciliation is unlikely in the near future.
