Former first lady Melania Trump has denounced the assassination attempt on her husband, Donald Trump, during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. She referred to the shooter as a “monster” and expressed her deep concern for the safety of her husband and their son, Barron.
Melania Trump, in a statement shared on X, revealed the harrowing experience of witnessing the bullet strike her husband. “When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change,” she wrote.
She extended her gratitude to the Secret Service agents and law enforcement officials who put their lives on the line to protect Donald Trump. “I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband,” she stated.
In addition to condemning the attack, Melania Trump also offered her “sincerest sympathy” to the families of the victims, including the shooter and a bystander who were both killed in the incident. “Your need to summon your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me,” she said.
The incident occurred on Saturday during a Trump campaign rally, where a shooter targeted Donald Trump, injuring him in the ear. Two spectators were critically injured.
Melania Trump’s statement comes amidst a period of limited public engagement with her husband’s political endeavors. She has notably avoided attending any Trump rallies and has been largely absent from his public appearances, particularly his numerous court appearances in recent months.
